It seems to me that Capitol Records keeps trying to find that perfect band that will measure up to The Beatles. They tried in 1979 with The Knack. Even though The Knack was a success, they faded with the wind. Many others came and went but Capitol kept plugging away. No one will ever meet the expectation of The Beatles, but that is not to say there will never be a super group again.

Chicago based, The Redwalls have that particular style of music to become legends. The new release “De Nova” is due this month and is produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith, The Vines). You get thirteen unbelievable tracks - mixing sounds reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, The Black Crowes, ELO, and many others.

The Redwalls bring together a sound that is missing from today's music scene. When listening to “De Nova” you will get that magic feeling of yesteryear... of Lennon / McCartney, Dylan, and T. Rex. This is a fantastic CD, mixing basic chords, horns and some great vocals. “Robinson Crusoe”, the opening track, has the vibe of T.Rex and The Black Crowes with some amazing vocals that remind you of Glenn Tillbrook (Squeeze). Track two, “Falling Down,” has perfect balance with melodic lyrics which anyone will love. “Building a Bridge” brings in a southern blues song that The Black Crowes would envy. These boys must have been brought up on the early days of music. Their ages range from nineteen to twenty-two, and by looking at their press photo, they look like they could be the next boy toys.

Once you hear their music, you know they are here to stay. Check out “Front Page,” this song is the highlight of the album and you can hear a heavy John Lennon influence in it. This is a top ten hit! “Glory of War” is another great song that could have been written by Dylan or McCartney. You get that feel listening to it. The REDWALLS are truly a unique band that can shoot to stardom quickly. So let’s not wait until everything about them is over priced. Get this CD and check these YOUNG guys out for yourself.
