More Senseless Random Behaviour” is not just a clever name, it's Finnish rockers VANITY INK'S impressive sophomore effort that sends a severe uppercut right through your speakers. If their first full length album ON YOUR SKIN (which Brian reviewed in '07) was a solid effort, “More Senseless Random Behaviour” cranks up the hard rock and metal while infusing instantly memorable choruses. In this ROCKY EYEZ review I'll bring you the verdict on VANITY INK'S latest.

Kicking it all off is "Smell The Party," and it sure as hell felt like a shot straight up my nostrils. From the onset VANITY INK establishes that they aren't out to bring you down, they're here to help you escape from your worries. Its party metal at its best. Lyrics like "...we'll dance on the tables and the neighbors will hate us," made me recall HOLLAND'S "Wake Up the Neighborhood" and the days when listening to hard rock tunes made me just want to wreck shit up.

Annabella, the raven-haired front woman, provides the tunes with a voice that sounds like Doro and Geddy Lee were churned up in a bubbling witch's cauldron. In addition to the soaring vocals, the band is precise and merciless. VANITY INK also consists of Juha and Jussi on guitars, Miki on bass, and Sam on drums. The production on the album is sharp and none of the instruments are buried. The lead and backing vocals join forces to create prominent harmonies that blast many of these tracks into the stratosphere.

"Let's Go Down" is a nice sonic head banger with an infectious chorus, a memorable guitar riff, and some smoking bass work by Miki Peltola. The band sounds tight on the empowering "Fine by Thursday," which is heavy but also has a nice pop sensibility to it. "Breathe" brings down the tempo but maintains the edge. This is the type of standout track that, by rights, should gain this band worldwide attention. It's an exceptional cut and harder than anything EVANESCENCE could ever put out.

The album only has two filler tracks. "Rolling Stones," is musically on par with the rest of the tracks but the chorus "something out of nothing" isn't as catchy as the others. You'll also hear your typical fist pounder in "Versus," but it never reaches the zenith that the other tracks do.

Song placement is key, since there's a few truly phenomenal tracks saved for the end. Perhaps one of the most exceptional of those is, "Modern Day Saviour," which incorporates guitar work reminiscent of LED ZEPPELIN. It's definitely a moment on the album that proves VANITY INK'S versatility. "Oh Sue" is a crunchy, up-tempo entry with a few gang vocals and a very SLASH sounding guitar solo. Listen for a monstrous build up to a screaming, shouting, fast paced finish. "Rock and Roll" is cool because it makes me feel like I just downed an energy drink. You'll want to jump up and down when listening to this exercise in rebellion.

Get ready to wave your hand back and forth and chant along with the album's final track "Everybodymoveeverybodygethurt." The thumping chorus combines the tenacity of KID ROCK'S "Bawitaba" with the spirit of QUEEN'S "WE WILL ROCK YOU."

If VANITY INK was ever worried about hitting the sophomore slump, they completely annihilated any chance of it happening. "More Senseless Random Behavior" simply dominates.
