The Dutch band Reviver was formed in 1997 and has released some demos and an EP. Today we have their first full length self-titled release. The CD starts off with wind-echoed keyboards and howling - which breaks into “Osiris Eyes.”
Vocally, Patrick van Maurik will mesmerize you with his changing style. The guitar work on the CD is shredding. Reviver is fast-paced, high potency metal with changing vocal styles that hearkens back to Saxon, Udo, Steeler, Iron Maiden, Helloween... among others! All metal fans will love this CD. Reviver borders on the hard rock/speed metal genre.
“Watch Out” is a killer track and so are many of the others on this release. I really can’t stress enough on the excellent guitar work done by both guitarists Tom Heemskerk and Fred Mantel. They work together to provide a kick to the CD with a style heavily influenced by Dave Murray and Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden.
“Another day” is another killer tune that has some really good drumming by Tom van Veenhuijzen; he hooks up with bassist Stefan Brederode to bring this song to life. Again the guitar work is phenomenal. On “Cycles,” the arrangement is excellent. It's filled with melodic vocals but still keeps a hard edge that has the feel of “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by Iron Maiden.
These guys (for starters) would be a fantastic opening act on a Maiden Tour, but eventually will have to break loose. This is a KILLER debut for REVIVER. Check out the last track - “Beyond the Infinite,” an instrumental that will leave you in a state of shock and it will make you realize just how good this band is.
