MAMA KIN are a fairly new band out of Sweden. This is same country that has brought us the likes of H.E.A.T., CRASHDIET, CRAZY LIXX, VAINS OF JENNA, CHRIS LANEY and the list just goes on and on. There must certainly be something in the water and MAMA KIN must be drinking from the same fountain! These guys just plain rock with the swagger of 80’s-era KISS and the hipness of a new band like HINDER. It’s old school meets new school with great results!
Just check out tunes like “Badge And A Gun” and “In The City” with their explosive, soaring choruses (ala HINDER) and “You Belong To Me” which sounds like it could have been ripped off the “Animalize” or “Asylum” albums from KISS.
“Too Much” reminds me of a solo Paul Stanley style mainly due to singer Ward and his Stanley-esque vocal tone. “Superman” was the bands first single and it was a good choice as the song is another clear winner.
Not every song is killer on “In The City”, with tunes like “Fortune & Fame” and the album closer “Champagne, Chicks & Rock ‘n’ Roll” not really doing it for me but the good songs do outshine the mediocre ones and ultimately I would like to hear a little more variety in the song department (how about a ballad next time!) but still this is an impressive debut from yet another top-notch act out Sweden worthy of keeping an eye on.
