The wait is finally over after the debut release “White Collar Lies” exploded on the scene in 2010 the guys from KOPEK have been non-stop touring as their new release “Rise” has made its way to the public here in 2014. Back in 2010 RockEyez named “White Collar Lies” best release of the year and also best new band (http://www.rockeyez.com/2010-best-of/brian-2010.html)
With a four year wait behind them “Rise” is here with ten brand new tracks on BMG Records. The band from Ireland really made a name for themselves in those four years but to hold the attention of fans this one better be good!
“Revolution” starts off in fine fashion with a killer track that revolt’s against Government. Lyrically, KOPEK are genius and the music that blends with vocalist Daniel Jordan’s voice is harsh yet meaningful. Great tune to start things off! “Love Penetrator” is pure magic. The song flows so well and has a bouncy feel that no matter where you are the feet will be tapping.
“Light Me Up” is another song that pulsates with joy. Jordan is such a demi-God not only vocally but his guitar work is massive. The mid-section of Brad Kinsella on bass and Eoin Ryan on drums round out the trio that is KOPEK.
“Drown” is a more subtle song until the chorus hits you when drummer Eoin Ryan bursts with high intensity and the elevation takes over. KOPEK is a band effort and each member has their time to shine as with the following track “The Watersong”. It’s a melodic gem that shows a sensitive side to KOPEK. “The Watersong” is phenomenal as its a song that goes from tearful eyes to a smile of joy.
With the track “Strays”, talk about a directional change as Brad Kinsella’s energetic bass lines slash the boundaries of the song. The tracks background vocals stand tall with full band chants and the screams by Jordan throttle the song to the forefront. “Light Up My Room” is an unusual song almost a cappella but Jordan’s vocals truly shine on this one.
“Changeling” could be the most commercial tune on the disc with its heavy guitar, dense bass lines and strong drums. With catchy lyrics and music that flows well it’s like a song that was written for radio airplay.
“Glow” is fast-paced in your face rocker but the cool thing is that the chorus and lyrics are perfect. It’s like KOPEK was in the studio and said ‘let’s just go crazy and rip this one’ and they did!
Ending the disc is “Ego Death” with hand claps, powerful lyrics and a perfect balance of music and thoughtful words. KOPEK are truly a band that write meaningful songs with uplifting choruses. Daniel Jordan is outstanding and with Brad Kinsella and Eoin Ryan being the backbone KOPEK should rise to fame with this new record. |
