BUILT ON SECRETS gained attention in 2010 with their debut EP “Reflections” and they haven’t looked back since. Now with their new arrival “The Disconnect”, it should put these young men from Melbourne, Australia on the fast track.

B.O.S. have supported acts such as ALL TIME LOW, SET YOUR GOALS and SENSES FAILS and with the release of “The Disconnect” should surpass all expectations. The disc starts off with full-blown power on the track “Surrender”. The song flows smoothly as Luke Steel’s vocals are exceptionally outstanding.  The complete package of B.O.S. has star quality and the dual guitars of Eli Menezes and Richard Hebden push the levels to the extreme. “Breathless” follows in the same footsteps. It’s a powerful energy-filled song that will shine at live shows.

One thing I really like about all the tracks is that they are just well-written songs that are enjoyable to listen to. It’s not one of those releases that you can say I like this track and don’t like that track. They all mesh together and are finely woven songs.

For me “Recover Recovery” stands out and makes the jump to a fine-tuned machine. The song hits the home run ball and as played in venues should have the fans rejoicing for more.

I would say my favorite track has to be “The Brightness of Blues”, which has great backing vocals and I thought the use of keyboards set the song apart from others.

“Thunderstorm” hits deep with a power ballad and it really highlights the vocal excellence of Luke Steel. Even though it has softer moments the song keeps the powerful flow of the disc going.

Ending the disc is “Dream Chaser” where you get to hear Steel reaching some higher notes in his vocal register.

The entire disc is masterful and flows well but maybe a little too well. What I mean by that is I really enjoyed the disc but I think a bit of directional change in the music could have helped make the disc more stunning. Still overall, it is excellent and should go a ways in making a name for B.O.S.
