BORN OF OSIRIS has done it again. Once again they have proved to be one of the best progressive metal bands out there with their latest release “The Discovery”. This album gives any metal fan what they are looking for, plus more. BORN OF OSIRIS have combined the heaviness from their debut album “The New Reign” with the melodic guitar work from “A Higher Place” to form a groundbreaking album that supersedes all expectations. The opening track “Follow the Signs” was the band’s first single from the album and sets the perfect tone for what is to come. Guitars ring out as Joe Buras lays out a creepy yet epic sounding synth progression that builds up to finally bring the roof down. Ronnie Canizaro’s vocals explode on the track and sound more haunting than ever.
BORN OF OSIRIS has blended many different elements into this album that it takes you on a journey. Some tracks start off slower, with synths and futuristic sounding beats that eventually build up and hit hard with face melting riffs. Other tracks end with interesting synths that are calming and lead you right into the next back breaking song.
Some standout tracks would include “Follow the Signs”, “Devastate”, “Two Worlds of Design”, and “Last Straw”. Though these songs encompass everything you would come to expect from Born of Osiris, they take it to the next level by adding layers upon layers of harmonized guitar, heavy guitar riffs, and yes, earth shaking breakdowns that are reminiscent to “The New Reign”.
Overall, this is a great album. If you are a fan of progressive metal, metal, or heavy music in general, this album is for you. Each song is very distinct and keeps you in suspense waiting to see what the next track is going to bring you. These guys have really outdone themselves with this album, mixing in more eerie synths, in your face vocals, and highly technical drum and guitar work. “The Discovery” could possibly be the best album that has come out this year in the wide variety of metal genres so far making this album being one to sure pick up as well as being one that you will find yourself listening to quite often.
