Being the CEO of RockEyez has its up's and down's and one of the down's is not being able to really focus your attention on one musician's career and music. That being said I was always an admirer of Lord Tim, who I've known from his involvement with bands such as BATTALION, DUNGEON and LORD. So when the good people at Infektion PR (Joel Costa) sent over a pre-release of a band that I hadn't heard of named GERM, with their new upcoming EP "Loss", I checked out the one sample track "So Lonely, Dead Lonely" and instantly loved it. As I delved into some research I find to my surprise Mr. Lord Tim has flow under my radar with this stylish altar ego project and I also come to find out they have three prior releases!
The music is atmospheric and trance-like and something that would put you in a meditative mood. The album starts off with "My Only Hope", which highlights Tim's amazing vocals. I'm not one for drum tracks but in this case you have no choice and yet the song explodes with truly amazing music. What can I say about guitar work? He is a master with some glorified soaring solos that I love. The only negative I would say is that I wanted more to the track. I was just getting into the riveting guitar work as the song came to an end.
"So Lonely, Dead Lonely" gave me the feeling I was at church mingling with the high power and the cries of forgiveness screaming out. The song is chilling as you can take it in many different ways according to your mindset. Black metal fans and Christian fans who listen to the track will form their own perception but only one individual knows the true direction. I loved how the song changed tempo with some excellent acoustic work that rises in elevation. This for me is a masterpiece of music and with very little vocals.
Listening to "Only When Every Timepiece In The World Is Smashed - Part I": I feel flashes of early GENISIS and PINK FLOYD styles with a fusion of the powerful style of the dark side. Once again the guitar work and keys by Tim sets fire to the song and his vocals are a perfect fit for this style. The bombardment of flowing keyboards puts the song over the edge. I really love it.
"Only When Every Timepiece In The World Is Smashed - Part II" continues the saga with a subtle approach and adding some extensive acoustic work. This is pure raw delight of a little over two minutes.
"Cold Grey Dawn (A New Beginning)" provides a more commercial track for the pop culture fans and has flashes of the new wave sound of the 80's ala NEW MUZIK but also is a melting pot of styles with the killer guitar work almost in the vein of Mark Knopfler (DIRE STRAITS).
Ending the disc is the title track "Loss" with keys starting it off ala Alice Cooper's "Steven" that takes it to another level of ecstasy. "Loss" shines with the talent of Tim. It's an instrumental trilogy. If music fans can have an open mind and give "Loss" a chance you will be delighted with an experience and a dream. |
