Interviewed by Brian Rademacher
Date: April 2010
Brian Rademacher: Hello Johnny and welcome to RockEyez.
Johnny Rainbow: Hi there!
Brian Rademacher: Can you tell us your birth name?
Johnny Rainbow: (I’m sorry dude but I don’t want to share my real name with anyone. It’s a sad, long story, sorry)
Brian Rademacher: SKULL DAZE came out with a three track demo which is sold out. Tell us a little about that release?
Johnny Rainbow: Well, the demo EP came out last year a few months after the band line-up was changed. We started as a four piece then we dropped our old drummer and we found The President, we also recruited Danny as a second guitarist. The EP included a couple of songs we did since the beginning and a new one, "Shining Star", that was not intended to be a SKULL DAZE song at first. Then we decided to rehearse it and put it on the EP ‘cause we found out it was a good idea, but it was not. We recorded the demo EP at the Refuse Studios in Rome and we had a great response from the fans.
Brian Rademacher: Listening to some of the new tracks on your MySpace this is gonna be a killer CD. "Heartbreak City" and "Dirty Girl" are amazing, as with the other tracks. How many songs on the new upcoming CD?
Johnny Rainbow: The CD is simply titled SKULL DAZE. Thanx a lot! The CD will contain 10 killer tracks; our music style has changed in a good way since the beginning. I think this album will be a great start for us and to the people who want to know the SKULL DAZE world.
Brian Rademacher: Do you have a personal favorite song off the new release?
Johnny Rainbow: My personal fav is "Heartbreak City". I really like that song. Also "Turn It Down" has a special meaning to me, it’s something like a revenge to all the people who never believed in me and in the band of course.
Brian Rademacher: You are also in a MOTLEY CRUE tribute band named STICKY SWEET. Is that band just for fun?
Johnny Rainbow: Yeah, MOTLEY is my all-time fav band, I grew up listening to them and I always wanted to sing their songs. They were one of my biggest inspirations since I was a teenager. The tribute band was started something like two years ago and we had some great gigs and still do.
Brian Rademacher: Tell us a little about your youth, like how were you in school.
Johnny Rainbow: Hmm…I don’t remember too much about my youth. It was a hard time for me, specially the school years. I had no friends, I was not a very talkative person, I used to sit in my room listening to music all the time.
Brian Rademacher: Did you play any sports?
Johnny Rainbow: Sure! Bedroom sports of course!
Brian Rademacher: Did you have anything on your walls at home in your bedroom?
Johnny Rainbow: My room seems like a typical teenager room, lots of pictures, posters and all that kind of shit on the wall. I will never grow up!
Brian Rademacher: What was the first concert you attended?
Johnny Rainbow: My first real concert was IRON MAIDEN in 1995, I was a metal-head back then.
Brian Rademacher: What was the first CD you ever bought with your own money?
Johnny Rainbow: Hmm… oh yeah THE RAMONES "Mondo Bizarro", the funny thing was that I bought the CD while I didn’t have a CD player yet.
Brian Rademacher: What do you feel your parents are most proud of you for?
Johnny Rainbow: I don’t think they are; I always been the black sheep. They never got interested in what happens in my life.
Brian Rademacher: Tell me your impression of each member of the band SKULL DAZE?
Johnny Rainbow: Well Joey is my best friend, we started the band together. He’s kinda weird and scary sometimes but he’s got a big heart and he’s loyal, and that’s one of the features I appreciate most in a human being. Acey is a cool guy, a great drunk and very funny to hang with. He was a little shy when we first met but he showed us he was the right guy to join the band soon after all. Danny is a quiet dude, I never saw him drunk and stuff. He’s very amenable and serious in everything he does, but he’s like a thunder when he picks up his guitar. The President… Oh God… he’s one of the funniest people I ever met in my life, always in motion like a merry go round. He plays drums on everything, all the time.
Brian Rademacher: In your mind why do you think Street Symphonies Records signed the band?
Johnny Rainbow: Cuz we’re cool and we have good songs. That’s it!
Brian Rademacher: What was the wildest thing that ever happened on stage?
Johnny Rainbow: Probably Acey and me being badly drunk on stage, I thought I was ok but I was wrong. Acey was not able to hit a note, also he was falling off the stage and he ended up with a black eye. We definitely learned a lesson…
Brian Rademacher: You say you love sex as quoted on your MySpace. What is your favorite position and why?
Johnny Rainbow: Sex is probably my fav thing in life. I like different kinds of positions but I think doggy style is my fav, I like to fuck so hard, spanking the asses lol!
Brian Rademacher: Have you ever had a guy hit on you?
Johnny Rainbow: Not really, I’m not the kind of guy who’s lookin’ for trouble.
Brian Rademacher: What was your very first job and how did it go?
Johnny Rainbow: It was a long time ago and I worked in a joinery. I was 15 but I left after a couple of weeks.
Brian Rademacher: Can you recommend another good band we can check out from Italy that’s the SKULL DAZE style?
Johnny Rainbow: Hmm… I don’t know really.
Brian Rademacher: What is it like in the studio with SKULL DAZE?
Johnny Rainbow: Fuckin’ around all the time, lots of fun, yelling and a fog of smoke everywhere!
Brian Rademacher: If you had a chance to do a world tour with another band, which would that be and why?
Johnny Rainbow: Well, as I got a personal fetish on them it would be a dream to go on tour with MOTLEY CRUE.
Brian Rademacher: What is a typical day for you from waking up until you go to bed?
Johnny Rainbow: Waking up late, hanging around with friends and party all the time, good music and live show, alcohol and sex of course ;)
Brian Rademacher: What would a dream come true for you be?
Johnny Rainbow: Dreams are hope for a better livin’, something to follow with all our strength.
Brian Rademacher: If you could cure any disease in the world what would that be?
Johnny Rainbow: Well I’m not the Pope lol and it’s almost hard for me to live that I never asked myself this kind of question. I just live day by day. This is a cruel world, call me an asshole but that’s my way of thinking.
Brian Rademacher: Italians are famous for cooking. Do you cook and what would be something you cook for a special occasion?
Johnny Rainbow: I’m the worst person to ask that question because I love fast foods!
Brian Rademacher: Well Johnny congratulations on your signing with Street Symphonies Records. Would you like to say anything in conclusion to the fans and our readers?
Johnny Rainbow: Thanx again Brian and thanx to RockEyez. We hope to see you guys on tour very soon for a rock ‘n roll never ending party!! See ya!!
